Position Summary
The VP, Product Development will be expected to drive the product development activities around the development of Karius’s products. This person will work closely with other functional areas to translate customer requirements into appropriate product requirements and development plans; oversee development of the product and/or systems; coordinate projects in their scope, schedule, resources and budget; lead system integration activities; support the validation activities.

Reports to: President & Chief Product Officer 

Location: Redwood City, CA 

Primary Responsibilities
•  Lead all product development aspects for Karius’ assay.
•  Hire and coach in-house team members to form a strong and cohesive unit.
•  Work with the Marketing team to gather, organize, and prioritize customer/market needs that become developments of the product.
•  Plan and coordinate the creation of comprehensive hardware/software requirements, assay requirements and functional specifications that feed into the design and development of the assay.
•  Plans and manages project budgets.
•  Proactively identify potential risks/issues and work with the team to develop mitigation strategies.
•  Direct programs through corporate governance to ensure that projects have adequate resources and technical expertise to meet strategic objectives.
•  Coordinates between projects, maximizes synergies, and helps resolve resource conflicts.
•  Responsible for all project team documentation: agendas, minutes, timelines, development plan, discussion aids, risk logs, and decision logs.
•  Present project updates, strategic issues, options, and recommendations.
•  Demonstrates strong business acumen with a customer centric perspective.

Travel: Up to 20% 

Physical Requirements
Subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is generally performed in an office environment. 

Position Requirements:
•  BS/BA degree in a scientific, medical, or business discipline. A postgraduate qualification (e.g., Ph.D., MBA, MS) will be a distinct advantage.
•  10+ plus years leadership in life Sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare or health insurance industries preferred, 5+ years in product management function.
•  Proven excellence in the use of project management tools and methodologies, (PMP Certificate a plus).Fluency with assay development life cycles, creating design inputs and outputs, design verification and design validation is required.
•  Proven ability to lead teams and achieve challenging objectives with direct and indirect management of functional resources.
•  Experience with complete and successful launches of new product systems.
•  Exposure to experience with clinical laboratory products strongly desired.
