Position Summary
The Manager, Procurement will be responsible for purchasing and supply management activities for all categories. Work closely with key stakeholders in the organizations to develop effective cost reduction strategies and implementation plans. Nurture stakeholder relationships by serving as a business partner, helping identify critical business requirements and providing sourcing and procurement services that meet expectations. Proactively identifies areas of opportunity for new business opportunities, process improvement, and cost efficiencies.

Reports to: Sr. Director, Finance & Controller  

Location: Redwood City, CA   

Primary Responsibilities
•  Oversee planning and strategic implementation of strategic goals for procurement, with a focus on department goals, timelines, budgets, communication, results tracking, and celebration.
•  Collaborate closely with other departments such as CLIA Lab, R&D, Legal, Sales, Marketing, and other departments.
•  Research vendors to locate specialized materials and supplies as requested by the R&D team.
•  Manage all purchasing activities and establish purchasing processes and procedures.
•  Build effective and efficient relationships with suppliers with the intent on a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship.
•  Negotiate contracts with vendors to secure advantageous terms. Help to control spending and build a culture of long-term savings related to procurement.
•  Evaluate effectiveness of existing contracts, and work with Legal and appropriate department head(s) to improve contracts as appropriate.
•  Evaluate and analyze purchasing trends and price trends to identify forecasting demand and minimize purchasing costs.
•  Track and report key functional metrics related to improvements in Procurement’s efficiency and effectiveness.
•  Collaborate with other teams to build and maintain an effective inventory management system for our business.
•  Be aware of industry trends that could impact suppliers and/or their relationship with Karius.
•  Ensuring Diversity Suppliers are included in sourcing events.
•  Perform other duties, as assigned.

Physical Requirements
Subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is generally performed in an office, lab or clinical environment.  

Position Requirements
•  Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.5+ years of relevant procurement or supply chain management preferably in Biotech or Pharma industries.
•  Ability to establish workflows, policies, manage multiple projects, and meet necessary deadlines.
•  Owner mentality and a self-starter with the ability to adapt, improvise, and problem solve.
•  Drive solutions to reduce and eliminate any shortages in the supply chain.
•  Contribute to material tracking and reporting across the organization.  

Personal Qualifications
•  Excellent written and verbal communication.
•  Strong negotiation skills and experience with sourcing and procurement systems.
•  Demonstrates ability in building internal and external relationships that creates alignment.
•  Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills.
•  Ability to navigate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and challenging deadlines.
•  Working knowledge of finance and/or accounting in terms of budgeting, financial accounting, risk management, and in-depth knowledge of sourcing and procurement principles and best practices.
•  Familiarity with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, as well as understanding of standard contractual terms and conditions to mitigate legal risks.
